Aluminium Propeller Anodes

As your propeller is underwater it will be prone to galvanic corrosion, which is why you'll need to protect it with a propeller anode. Aluminium anodes have a key benefit over the two other main alloys used to make anodes (zinc and magnesium), and that is that aluminium anodes can be used in both salt and fresh water; whilst zinc propeller anodes can only be used in salt water, and magnesium propeller anodes can only be used in fresh water.

As aluminium is a far more reactive metal to those used to make the propeller on your vessel, the aluminium anode will sacrifice itself and corrode, protecting your propeller - which is where the term 'sacrificial anode' comes from.
