Bolt on Versus Weld On

Weld On Anodes

Weld on anodes are recommended on vessels where a long life span is required or where the anodes are subject to significant vibration, agitation, abrasion or other physical impact. To ensure continuity and a 100% secure fixing, welded anodes are best.

The welding strap is commonly cast in steel core to the anode for easy fixing. It also has the added advantage of turning into a bolt on anode if you wished to drill your own bolt holes at bespoke bolt centres.

Bolt On Anodes

Bolt on anodes have a wide variety of stud centre and hole diameters to suit all European and American designed boats. Bolt on anodes are a quick and effective way to secure anodes without the need for specialist tools.

When using bolt on anodes it’s good practice to use serrated or fan disc washers. This type of washer ensures there is a good electrical connection between the anode and the structure. As with any fitting, the quality of the studs and metal type should be the best available.
